P2.8B released for BFP’s firetrucks, emergency vehicle acquisition.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released a total of PHP2.880 billion to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for the purchase of nearly 300 firetrucks and emergency vehicles in line with its ongoing modernization efforts. The allocation will be used for the acquisition of 154 firetrucks, three collapsed structure and rescue trucks, and 132 ambulances. The release of the funding is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to continuously capacitate the fire bureau. The amount is chargeable against the balance of the BFP’s 80 percent share from Fire Code revenues pursuant to Republic Act No. 9514.

Cigarette caused NAIA fire that gutted 19 cars—BFP.
Improperly disposed of cigarette butts caused the fire that engulfed several vehicles at the extension parking area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in April, according to the BFP.

Fire burns houses in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
Fire hits a residential area in Pureza, Sta. Mesa in Manila on Thursday afternoon. It was raised to the first alarm at 5:42 p.m. and quickly escalated to the second alarm five minutes later. The BFP said it was declared under control at 7:32 p.m. and extinguished at 8:44 p.m.

Fire leaves 70 families homeless in Mandaue.
At least 60 houses have been razed by fire affecting 70 families in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City. There were 60 houses totally burned and two partially damaged. The fire department estimated the damage at P280,000 with zero casualty.

Fires hit Pandacan, Sta. Mesa.
Fires broke out in Pandacan and Sta. Mesa in Manila on Thursday, leaving two people injured, at least 23 families homeless and 13 pet cats dead. A worker and a resident suffered burns and wounds as they tried to put out the fire at a three-floor house in Pandacan’s Barangay 867. The tenants of a house were not home when the fire occurred.
